Stomp?

Hello everyone.

Today I get to browse through STOMP. STOMP to me is like a website providing local news but most of them are just purely rubbish. Those information who is posted by people are kind of accurate as usually there are pictures/photos as evidences. However, as I said that most of them are rubbish.

Let me give a example.

People may post something like: STOMPer xxx was on bus and saw one of the windows having cracks.

Instead of posting such things on STOMP, they should have keep it to themselves.
Well, it still better than get scolded by those netizens....

All about search facilities

Search facilities. When comes to these 2 words, all I can think of is Google. Lecturers always ask me to "Google" when I ask them questions on my projects. All along, I search everything using Google and I thought Google is powerful enough for me. After today's lesson, I realize that there are more than just Google for search facilities.


What are different kind of search facilities?


Search engine - A search engine searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found. Example (http://www.google.com/)


Meta search engine - A search engine that queries other search engines and then combines the results that are received from all. Example (http://www.monstercrawler.com/)


Subject directory - Subject directory allow you to browse Internet resources by different subject categories. Example (http://www.dir.yahoo.com/)


Invisible web - Invisible web refers to either web pages that cannot be indexed by a typical search engine or Web pages that a search engine purposely does not index, rendering the data "invisible" to the general user. Example (http://spark.tp.edu.sg/)

Discussion Forum !

Well, this is like erm, 3rd time or 4th time posting is a forum. I guess is a failure tho.

I realize that the way of asking question is not very natural. In forum, I guess one have to like somehow 'casually' chatting to make it a success one. Sorry ! I did my best already ):

Reflection on Second Life Activity..

After 2 activities of E-Shopping Spree, I prefer Second Life.

I like the E-Shopping on websites too. Websites have the pictures of the real items and I am able to see clearly the design, looks of the items. But why I still prefer Second Life?

Second Life makes me feel that I'm actually 'there' to do my shopping. I can control my character to do whatever I want. The environment there also another factor which make me choose Second Life. Just like when I went inside Second Life, I was already engrossed with the beautiful environment. Been in Second Life is like me myself teleported inside doing the shopping.

Character flying around without wings or mechanism. Decorating the place with different objects. Running on water. All these can be done  in Virtual World which Real-Life cannot. Since we cannot have these fun in Real-Life, why not we go Virtual World to have all these fun. :P

The most challenging part of the activity is to figure out how to play the game. After trying awhile, I realize that I need in-game credit to play. hahahahaha

Second Life Activity !

Hey ! This is my 2st time exploring in Second Life. For this activity, I suppose to choose a place and do virtual shopping. So, the place I have choose is Indigo Island.

To me, Indigo Island is not really a place to do shopping. This place more like providing entertainment to visitors. 

M&E Gamez..  Hmm....

                                                               

There are alot of games here such as Dawgs, Gem Miner, Echo Hold'em etc. I do not have the chance to play all these games as they need in-game money to play.

Based on what I see, these games all score-based. Like the game you play reaches or over the scores, you can win a prize. (I just assuming tho.) This place do not have any visitor or users except me. I guess the games here are too expensive or not worth to try.

Finally a game which requires more than 1 player

                                   

Well, after exploring Indigo Island, I found out that the place is more like a house than a entertainment center. The environment there feels cosy and make me feel that I actually at home. Compare to Real-Life, you are not able to find a entertainment center which feels that way. Lots of money would be involve if this kind of entertainment center is been set-up. However in Second Life, the creator of Indigo Island make the place such that you will not get in Real-Life, let visitor/users to enjoy unique-ness and different feelings which are not able to get from Real-Life.

I wish this place is mine !

What did I learn...

After doing today's activity, I realize that using of proper keywords allows me to find my information effectively. In poly for 2 years ++, I been blindly "throwing" words in Google search engine to do my researches and finding information. By using keywords, information on that particular subject would be more focus.

I did a search in both Google scholar and the Google general search, I found out that Google scholar focus more on articles and the range of search is lower. On the other hand, Google general search have wider range of  articles and information are more relevant compare to Google scholar.

Well, this is my point of view tho. Or maybe I still not used to search properly. lol.

Reflection

After the lesson, I have learnt about all types of Internet Resources such Blog, Wiki and Online forums. These Internet Resources often contains information for online users to view(Blog and Wiki) and discuss(Online Forums). So, whats the difference between each of them?

Blogs..
provide commentary or news on a particular subject and can be a personal online diary.
Usually bloggers would put their personal views on particular subjects.

Wiki..
is a web-based online encyclopedia which allows users to add, edit and remove of contents. Most of the information are available in Wiki. One such wiki is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.


Online Forum..
is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations or discussions in the form of posted messages.
People would go to online forum to chit-chat or discuss on a particular subject.


Each of the Internet Resources serve different purposes and they are useful in helping me research on my topics/projects.
