Search facilities. When comes to these 2 words, all I can think of is Google. Lecturers always ask me to "Google" when I ask them questions on my projects. All along, I search everything using Google and I thought Google is powerful enough for me. After today's lesson, I realize that there are more than just Google for search facilities.
What are different kind of search facilities?
Search engine - A search engine searches documents for specified keywords and returns a list of the documents where the keywords were found. Example (http://www.google.com/)
Meta search engine - A search engine that queries other search engines and then combines the results that are received from all. Example (http://www.monstercrawler.com/)
Subject directory - Subject directory allow you to browse Internet resources by different subject categories. Example (http://www.dir.yahoo.com/)
Invisible web - Invisible web refers to either web pages that cannot be indexed by a typical search engine or Web pages that a search engine purposely does not index, rendering the data "invisible" to the general user. Example (http://spark.tp.edu.sg/)

Reflection on Second Life Activity..
After 2 activities of E-Shopping Spree, I prefer Second Life.
I like the E-Shopping on websites too. Websites have the pictures of the real items and I am able to see clearly the design, looks of the items. But why I still prefer Second Life?
Second Life makes me feel that I'm actually 'there' to do my shopping. I can control my character to do whatever I want. The environment there also another factor which make me choose Second Life. Just like when I went inside Second Life, I was already engrossed with the beautiful environment. Been in Second Life is like me myself teleported inside doing the shopping.
Character flying around without wings or mechanism. Decorating the place with different objects. Running on water. All these can be done in Virtual World which Real-Life cannot. Since we cannot have these fun in Real-Life, why not we go Virtual World to have all these fun. :P
The most challenging part of the activity is to figure out how to play the game. After trying awhile, I realize that I need in-game credit to play. hahahahaha

Hey ! This is my 2st time exploring in Second Life. For this activity, I suppose to choose a place and do virtual shopping. So, the place I have choose is Indigo Island.

To me, Indigo Island is not really a place to do shopping. This place more like providing entertainment to visitors.

There are alot of games here such as Dawgs, Gem Miner, Echo Hold'em etc. I do not have the chance to play all these games as they need in-game money to play.

Based on what I see, these games all score-based. Like the game you play reaches or over the scores, you can win a prize. (I just assuming tho.) This place do not have any visitor or users except me. I guess the games here are too expensive or not worth to try.

Well, after exploring Indigo Island, I found out that the place is more like a house than a entertainment center. The environment there feels cosy and make me feel that I actually at home. Compare to Real-Life, you are not able to find a entertainment center which feels that way. Lots of money would be involve if this kind of entertainment center is been set-up. However in Second Life, the creator of Indigo Island make the place such that you will not get in Real-Life, let visitor/users to enjoy unique-ness and different feelings which are not able to get from Real-Life.

What did I learn...
After doing today's activity, I realize that using of proper keywords allows me to find my information effectively. In poly for 2 years ++, I been blindly "throwing" words in Google search engine to do my researches and finding information. By using keywords, information on that particular subject would be more focus.
I did a search in both Google scholar and the Google general search, I found out that Google scholar focus more on articles and the range of search is lower. On the other hand, Google general search have wider range of articles and information are more relevant compare to Google scholar.
Well, this is my point of view tho. Or maybe I still not used to search properly. lol.

After the lesson, I have learnt about all types of Internet Resources such Blog, Wiki and Online forums. These Internet Resources often contains information for online users to view(Blog and Wiki) and discuss(Online Forums). So, whats the difference between each of them?
Blogs..
provide commentary or news on a particular subject and can be a personal online diary.
Usually bloggers would put their personal views on particular subjects.
Wiki..
is a web-based online encyclopedia which allows users to add, edit and remove of contents. Most of the information are available in Wiki. One such wiki is http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.
Online Forum..
is an online discussion site where people can hold conversations or discussions in the form of posted messages.
People would go to online forum to chit-chat or discuss on a particular subject.

E-Shopping Spree !
Hohoho~ So lucky found $500 on the floor. I decide to spend this $500 to buy whatever I want.
Hmm, I found this phone in e-bay and I am quite interested in it.
1) Blackberry Bold 9000 - $500
This phone looks cool and always wanted to try it.
2) Electric Bass Guitar - $145 +++++++++
Even though I learning how to playing guitar at the moment, I also want to play other instruments. This will be good for me.
3) Monster Beats In-Ear Headphones by Dr. Dre - $299
Earpiece ! I been using my Apple default earpiece and always got problem with the wire. Maybe this earpiece will save me the trouble from untangling the wire.
Virtual shopping is kinda fun in a way that there are lots of things out there for me to see. Since I am a lazy person, I prefer to shop online than go outside walk the whole shopping mall. Using the correct keywords, this will allow me to search my things I want easily.

Nov 2 Update !
What I have learnt today:
Internet was created in the first place to allow people to communicate with each other anytime, anywhere without seeing each other face-to-face.
As technology getting more advance and more people uses the internet, people uses internet for other purposes. Some people create blogs so they can share with other people. E-magazine are available for people to subscribe so people do not have to get out of their houses or workplaces to buy the magazine itself. Newspapers and magazines are part of the entertainment in the past. Now there is multimedia website such as Youtube, people can watch videos and listen music videos. For me, internet also help alot in my assignments and projects. Some professionals and skilled people would post tutorials and share with people in the internet so people can learn new things through the internet.
Nowadays, businesses also take the internet seriously. Alot of people create blogshop and online shop so people can buy their things through the internet.
Internet always have the best resources and information out there !

Hello everyone ! Let me introduce myself. My name is Yu Feng A.K.A penguin and watermelon(people call me that due to my hair I guess). I am from Engineering School, Diploma in Information and Communication.
One of the activities I usually do is wander around Youtube, Facebook and listen to music videos. My favourite singers includes Sam Tsui(youtuber who sing nice covers), Bruno Mars, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and Jay Sean. For me, I dont usually watch TV programme but I watch random videos and japanese animation through the internet. Some of the places I usually chill out at will be Carls JR @ East Coast Park and Rocher Beancurd @ Selegie Road(will go when my friend drive car to bring me there :P) or any places where can sit down and chit-chat. There are some of internet sites allow me to kill some times such as http://www.facebook.com/ where I can get to see status update on everyone; http://www.youtube.com/ to watch random videos; http://www.funkyspacemonkey.com/ and http://www.redmondpie.com/ to read up articles on Apple stuff.
One of the hobby I have will be playing guitar. Just started playing 1 week ago and is tough to self-learn at home. One of the way to learn guitar is to have someone who can guide you along. If you going to self-learn just like me, the only is to watch online tutorials or any websites which have tutorials. The best way to gain this skill is to practice hard !
